They are all fairly powerful and fucking expensive, so it’s a good idea to try to have enough points left over after the auction to actually buy them, usually by getting some prices worked out so you can get a budget together ahead of time. It often devolves to one-on-one, or at least has a very limited participation rate. Scores above 0 are “ranked”, with the highest score being ranked 1st, the next-highest 2nd, and so on.

Shadow Knight does address this rloe-playing somewhat, by presenting the “living trump” abilities as somewhat limited. For any of these stats, you can get more points to spend later by taking a less-than-immortal rank in them, but that guarantees that you are completely fucked because people will pick on that stat every goddamn time.
The game is unusual in that no dice are used in resolving conflicts or player actions; instead a simple diceless system of comparative ability, and narrative description of the action by the players and gamemasteris used to determine how situations are resolved.

And it helped promote role-playing because the best allies for your character were the other characters. However, since some feel that being the children of the main characters is too limiting, it is fairly common to either start with King Oberon’s death before the book begins and roleplay the Elder Amberites as they vie for the throne; or to populate Dicelees from scratch with a different set of Elder Amberites.
